Small bumps to bottom corners of both boards; paper clip impression at the top of two pages toward the rear of the book. Photographs by Harvey Payne. Includes many illustrations and photos, suggestions for further reading, acknowledgments, and an index; 287 pages. This copy is inscribed by the author and photographer in white ink on the black front endpaper - the couple to whom it is inscribed were leaders of the docents at the Tall Grass Prairie. Laid in is an 8x10 color photograph of a buffalo in the snow (presumably by Harvey Payne).
