The first edition of this thrilling Biggles adventure, featuring the colour illustrations of Leslie Stead. First edition, first impression. Illustrated throughout with monochromatic colour images. The thirty-fourth book in the Biggles series. Set in French Equatorial Africa, this story follows Biggles and his tea, as they search for a highly organised gang flooding world markets with counterfeit stamps and currency. Written by William Earl Johns, an English First World War pilot and writer of adventure stories, who wrote under the pen name Capt. W. E. Johns. He is best known for creating the fictional air-adventurer Biggles. Illustrated by Leslie Stead, a British artist and illustrator who worked on many of the books in this series. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with minor bumping and the odd small mark. Small splits to the cloth to the rear joint. Original unclipped dust wrapper is also smart with light wear and minor chipping to the extremities. The odd small closed tear and a light tide mark to the rear panel. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot, predominantly to the fore edge. Minor age toning to the endpapers. Contemporary ink inscription to the front endpaper and front pastedown.
