The book is lavishly illustrated with maps, document facsimiles, and Civil War photographs, most previously unpublished. This is must reading for Civil War enthusiasts due, in part, to the multitude of unusual and at times highly personal observations on the conflicts. Bibliographical references. Index. Drawing on newly discovered sources that include Murphy's diaries, letters, and other private papers… At the conclusion of their spotty training, the 13th Regiment was sent to Arlington, outside Washington, DC, to construct earthworks and rifle pits. Shortly thereafter they went into action in the bloody battle of Antietam, followed by the battles of Chancellorsville and Gettysburg. Besides book fairs and mail-order catalogues, long-time collectors and dealers will remember our lengthy For Sale ads in the Antiquarian Bookman and similar magazines.
