Sobre este artículo
London: J. Wallis and C. Stonehouse, 1776. "The most material circumstances of naval history from the Norman invasion to the conclusion of the last war". Volume 1 of four from a scarce edition published nine years earlier than the standard 1785 one. John Campbell's name is absent from the title page although the author acknowledges him in his foreword for blazing the "Biographia Nautica" trail (First 1742). This edition also lacks illustrations apart from frontis engraving showing Britannia, goddess Minerva, the funeral urn of Sir Charles Saunders and other significant details - explained in a separate note - and "An Anglo-Saxon Ship" at p29. Half-leather covers on marbled boards with five raised bands and gilt on red spine panel, 520pp. General wear to extrems, both joints and upper hinge cracked, but holding well. Page edges discoloured with age, foxing to prelims and occasionally throughout. Pp309-310 is torn, with part missing, rfeps are missing, Pencilled note on front pastedown and previous owner's name (dated 1850) on ffep and small name and "1707" (?) at top of title page, otherwise text bloc is sound. Ref:104447.. Half-leather. G/N/a. 13x20.5cm.
