Ex-library Newberry Library Chicago (Senn Collection) with spine label, front pastedown labels, and a few library notations. Withdrawn stamp at base of page [iii]. Previous owner name (W. Baum) inked at base of title page. Textblock sound, a good working or reference copy. Boards. Volume One only of an eventual six volumes published from 1802 to 1822. Title, roughly translated is: "Biology, or philosophy of the living nature for naturalists and doctors" (google trans)
John A. Campbell's (1902) "A Biographical History, with Portraits, of Prominent Men of the Great West" notes that the Senn Collection was a major donation to the Newberry, and "the most valuable portion of them constituted at one time the library of the celebrated Dr William Baum, late professor of surgery in the University of Gottingen and one of the founders of the German Congress of Surgeons.
