Black quarter cloth over green cloth, silver spine titling, edgewear, rubbed extremities,foxing to top-edge, binding slightly shaken, rear hinge cracked, FO plate to FPEP, typed note dated December 19, 1966 and signed (*unverified) in green ink from editor Ford on index card tipped in to FFEP, unmarked. Unclipped DJ ($10.00), edgeworn, extremities rubbed, some loss, in protector. Ford has selected, arranged, and edited 80 of the most interesting and characteristic of Audubon's bird biographies, including 12 plates from the Audubon collection at Harvard University previously never reproduced. Intriguing provenance of this association copy: ex-libris Robert Cushman Murphy, world-renowned ornithologist and former Lamont Curator of birds at the American Museum of Natural History in New York; typed & signed index card from editor Alice Ford is a brief note of thanks to Murphy for sharing the eulogy of recently deceased ornithologist and fellow AMNH curator E.(rnest) Thomas Gilliard.
