Dated 1838 from copies on JISC held by the University of Cambridge Libraries. Mary Howitt was an English poet. She was the author of the famous poem The Spider and The Fly. Some of her works were written in collaboration with her husband William Howitt. Many of her verse and prose was aimed at young people. In the Preface, it states that this work was written for The Christmas Library. Mary Howitt includes a charming piece of information that this work was written in nature. The poems reflect the beauty of the natural landscape. In the original publisher's cloth. Externally very smart. Two small cracks to the front joint. Internally firmly bound. The odd spot on the first and last pages but generally the pages are bright and clean. Contemporary gift inscription to the front pastedown. A small tide mark on the last few pages. Very Good
