University of Wisconsin Press, 1984. Owen Gromme (1896 - 1991) was inducted into the Wisconsin Conservation Hall of Fame in 1994. A quote on the Hall's website states "He is a phenomenal man and outstanding artist; there is no question in anyone's mind that Owen Gromme is one of the greatest wildlife painters of all time." - Ken McCreary. Gromme was born Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, and spent most of his professional life as the curator of birds and mammals at the Milwaukee Public Museum. His paintings helped bring attention to important conservation issues. He also served as president of the Wetlands for Wildlife organization. This superb publications includes 328 species depicted in 106 full-color identification portraits in the tradition of Audubon (dust jacket). Quarto. Green cloth covered boards. White dust jacket with blue title to front and spine panels. Corner of rear dust jacket has been torn away, and front panel of dust jacket has a closed tear.
