First 1927; this is the First Edition of Grosset & Dunlap,1928. First novel of Julia Peterkin (1880 - 1961). Poignant portrait of daily life and folk beliefs of the Gullah African-American of the South Carolina coast and nearby islands. Julia Peterkin received the Pulitzer Prize for Scarlet Sister, 1928.
