A historical fantasy novel featuring William Douglas, the "Black Douglas" and Gilles de Retz, "Bluebeard". Set in Scotland and France in the fifteenth century, this work blends history with supernatural elements, and is cited as an influence for J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Written by Samuel Rutherford Crockett, a Scottish novelist. In the original full cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Minor fading to the spine with the odd small mark to the boards. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright with the odd spot or handling mark. Age toning to the endpapers with a contemporary ink inscription to the half-title dated 1899. Very Good

Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
