Description: Dust jacket art by Zaccone. This bears the ''First Edition'' statement on the copyright page and a 1944 date on the title page. A wartime edition, with a wartime compliance statement on the synopsis page, and a Buy Bonds ad on the rear flap of the jacket, and a mailing label at bottom so readers could ship the book to the U.S.O. Library for a serviceman. A Crime Club selection in their ''Character and Atmosphere'' category.
