A most extraordinary story about a horse who did customary things for his first 12 years but ended up staying in pretty much one place near Tiburon, California on the shores of San Francisco Bay for his last 28 years. Visitors of all ages regularly fed him carrots, sugar, and apples, and most everyone passing by would smile or wave to him. Blackie died on February 27, 1966, a simple, white cross marks his grave. But the town of Tiburon erected a life-size bronze sculpture of Blackie on the very spot where he stood for 28 years.
