Blackwood's Edinburgh MAgazine was a monthly literary periodical which provided a literary platform for emerging Victorian authors such as Joseph Conrad and George Eliot. In this American edition, historical and literary articles including: Civil War related material-"A Visit to the Cities and Camps of the Confederate States, 1863-64"; Descriptions of Capri Island, the Nile Basin; Demonology; biographical sketches on William Gladstone, Earl Russell, William Blake; rate of Interest and monetary crises;  "Thirty Years Policy in New Zealand" etc.
