Sobre este artículo

London: Chapman and Hall, 1853. Book. Illus. by Browne, H. K. ("PHIZ."). Good. Cloth. First Edition. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. London: Chapman and Hall, 1853. 8vo. First Edition sheets, recased in c. 1866 binding. No publication date. Published c. 1866 as part of the "Charles Dickens Edition" or "Original Edition" set, Bleak House is in its original fine brown sandcloth (also called "diapercloth") binding, with a blindstamped rule around the edges. "BLEAK HOUSE." (short swollen rule), "CHARLES DICKENS." (all caps), "ILLUSTRATED", ORIGINAL EDITION" (all caps) appear on the spine in gilt. Original chocolate brown endpapers. 9" tall x 5.5" wide. Blank endpaper. Half title. Engraved frontispiece, protective tissue, engraved title vignette, title with publication place (no date) to verso. Dedication, 1853 preface (vi-x), Contents (xi-xiv), List of Plates (xv-xvi) and Errata (xvi) with 5 entries. 624 pp., blank endpaper, colored endpaper. 38 engraved plates, plus frontispiece and vignette, 40 illustrations in total. The frontispiece and vignette title page are identical to the 1853 first edition, except that Chapman and Hall replaces Bradbury and Evans on the vignette. The title page is identical to that in Smith (p. 81), lacking a publication date and with 193 Piccadilly as Chapman and Hall's address. This is identical to the address of the variant vignette title page noted by Smith, p. 84. All of the internal flaws noted in Smith pp. 82-83 are present, except for a couple of conditional ones. This is an uncorrected copy of the first edition printing. Dickens re-edited his works for this edition with the intention of developing an authoritative version of his works. When Oxford University Press decided to print a set of Dickens' works, this was the edition that was chosen. Light soiling, wear top and bottom of spine. Hinges cracked. Clean, solid textblock. A few pages loosening from signatures. Pages uniformly lightly toned. Good condition and scarce in original sandcloth..

Sinopsis

Bleak House is the ninth novel by Charles Dickens, published in twenty monthly installments between March 1852 and September 1853. It is held to be one of Dickens's finest novels, containing one of the most vast, complex and engaging arrays of minor characters and sub-plots in his entire canon. The story is told partly by the novel's heroine, Esther Summerson, and partly by omniscient narrator.
