Sobre este artículo

New York: Doubleday & McClure Co., 1900. Benjamin Franklin Norris, Jr (1870-1902), influenced by Zola's naturalism, is famous for several "muckraking" novels that are associated with progressive causes for reform. He was also, unfortunately, influenced by the Social Darwinism and Scientific Racism of his day, and tainted by the ever-popular antisemitism. First published in 1899; this is a Near Fine copy of a Later Printing (2nd) from a year later. Tan cloth binding, ruled in black, with titling and a sunrise in orange on the front cover. Clean text; 339 pages. Faint previous-owner signature on the FFEP. No dustjacket; in an archival plastic protector.. Later Printing. Decorative Cloth. Near Fine/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Sinopsis

IT had just struck nine from the cuckoo clock that hung over the mantelpiece in the dining-room, when Victorine brought in the halved watermelon and set it in front of Mr. Bessemer's plate. Then she went down to the front door for the damp, twisted roll of the Sunday morning's paper, and came back and rang the breakfast-bell for the second time.
