Sobre este artículo

The Golden Press, Lakewood, CO, 1949. First Thus. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good+ Condition/Fair. Book An Ex-Library copy from the limited edition of 1500 copies of this reprint, which was the first done since the original publication in 1863. Described on the dust jacket as "the True Account of the Apache Canon Fight and the Battle of La Glorieta Pass wherein the Mountain Men of Colorado and Their Gallant Enemies, The Texans of Sibley's Brigade, Met in Bloody Conflict to Determine the Destiny of the Entire West." From the introduction by western novelist William MacLeod Raine: "The re-issuance of this book is, in my opinion, the most important publication of the year amongst those which tell of the turbulent Rocky Mountain country and its salty first citizens." He writes, "The true importance of the campaign between the Coloradans and the Texans goes far beyond a local effect. It was one of the decisive struggles of the Civil War. If Sibley's seasoned Texas Brigade had won, they surely would have dominated the West and its resources." The rosters in the appendices include the Roster of the First Cavalry of Colorado, Appointments and Promotions of Officers of the First Regiment Colorado Volunteers, and Officers of the First who have Deceased or Resigned. Special Limited Edition, first issue in this format. Size: 8"-9" - Octavo (8vo). 190 pages. Item Type: Book. The text block is tight. The text is printed in dark brown ink on tan paper. Hardcover bound in dark wine cloth with gilt decoration of revolver on the front cover and title in gilt on the spine. There are dark strips at the front cover and middle of the rear cover from the adhesive of tape used to hold the dust jacket in place. Corners are sharp with no wear at the tips. The dust jacket suffered at the hands of a librarian. The front flap was cut off and pasted to the rear free end paper. There is a sticker scar from the shelf tag at the base of the spine and 1" tears along the folds on either side of the spine, probably from someone tearing off the shelf tag. There are five spots at the bottom of the outside edge of the front panel and a strip at the outside edge of the rear flap that are like oil stains (again, it appears they are from the adhesive). In addition, the title is completely faded from the spine, leaving it a blank white. The jacket is now protected from any further abuse in a clear archival Brodart sleeve. Ex-Lib with the following marks: Library stamp on the title page, bottom of pages 19 and 190 and the side page edges; erased Dewey Decimal number on the verso of the title page, along with an accession number. The library's book plate is partially removed from the inside front cover and there is the residue of a pocket or Due Date paper there, as well. There is some dried residue from adhesive tape on the inside front cover and facing free end paper. Quantity Available: 1.
