Sobre este artículo

Published by Hamish Hamilton, London; 1981. 8vo. 400pp. First edition, first impression. Condition: Fine/Fine.

Bound in original burgundy cloth boards with title in gilt to the spine. The binding is square and tight and in excellent condition, with just a touch of bumping to the corners and spine ends. Inside, the book is clean and bright and free from marks or damage, there is just some mild toning and slight spotting to the edges.

This beautiful book is housed in its original, first issue, dust jacket. It is vibrant and bright and in very smart condition, with a touch of rubbing to the rear panel and bumping to the spine ends.

In all, this is a lovely example of this modern first by G. B. Edwards, with an introduction by John Fowles. The book is a fictionalised autobiography of fisherman and typical Guernseyman, Ebenezer Le Page. Since its publication, this book has been critically acclaimed and praised by critics and authors alike. G. B. Edwards was a Guernseyman himself, and spent many years working on this book. Although it wasn't published until after his death, it is the work that he is best known for. This example would make an ideal addition to any modern firsts collection.

Sinopsis

G. B. Edwards (1899—1976) was born on the British Island of Guernsey. A professor of drama and literature at Toynbee Hall, his friends included Middleton Murray, J.S. Collis, and Stephen Potter. Though full of promise, he published only a handful of articles. Encouraged by Edward Chaney to create a trilogy of novels on island life, he completed only one, The Book of Ebenezer Le Page. John Fowles (1926—2005) was born in Leigh-on-Sea, in the south-east of England, and educated at Oxford. His best-known novels are The French Lieutenant's Woman and The Magus .
