Sobre este artículo

London: Frederick Warne and Co., 1905. Cloth. Good. 8.5" by 10". Edward Lear. A charming copy of Edward Lear's profusely illustrated and much-loved work, The Book of Nonsense. Collated complete from copac. Profusely illustrated by Lear throughout. Edward Lear was an English artist, illustrator, author and poet, known for popularising the genre of literary nonsense. Lear wrote and illustrated a wide range of poems, songs and short stories, many of which conform to his nonsense style that gained him notoriety. Alongside this work, he undertook a small number of illustrations for Tennyson, alongside composing twelve musical settings for his poetical works. This work encapsulates his humour and nonsensical style through a series of charming limericks and their accompanying illustrations. In a blue cloth binding with gilt detail. Externally smart, with rubbing to the extremities, joints and spine. Bumping to the head and tail of the spine. Hinges are strained. Internally firmly bound. Pages are generally bright and clean with some marginal age toning and the odd spot, heavier to the first and last few pages. Good

Sinopsis

Edward Lear (1812 - 1888) was an English writer of nonsense, the most famous piece of which is The Owl and the Pussycat. He is also credited with popularizing the limerick, though there was some speculation as to whether his patron, the Earl of Derby, simply used Lear as a pseudonym for his own writings. Lear was also a successful illustrator and even spent some time tutoring Queen Victoria in drawing before his improper behaviour had him thrown out of court.
