Born in Winnipeg, Brand started his singing career at a New York radio station in 1945, and broadcasted award-winning shows Folksong Festival, and The World of Folk Music. He also was music director of NBC's weekly children's program The Spirit of '76, taught at New York University, participated in numerous shows in Washington, New York, and Toronto, wrote songs and composed music, hosted the Canadian series Let's Sing Out, and sat on the panel which created Sesame Street. -- The collection contains playscripts of The Education of Hyman Kaplan, Ballad-Mongers, Second Scroll, and Thunder Bay; music scores of the Broadway musical A Joyful Noise; news clippings and recordings; interviews, brochures, playbills and publicity, and a file of guest appearances which include Frank Sinatra and Paul McCartney. -- Related are eight tape recordings (Tc 60) .
