Hardcover has brown cloth-covered boards with gold spine lettering and blind-stamped ruled borders and bands. Binding cracked at title page; webbing visible, but pages not loose. Binding otherwise strong. Corners and spine ends bumped and rubbed, with some fraying at tips and spine ends; boards exposed at corners. Exterior front hinge rubbed, with fraying to top half of its length. Chip to fore edge of front cover. Covers have moderate edge wear and surface rubbing. Pages lightly and uniformly tanned but still supple. Pages have a few tan spots and some light foxing in places. Pages otherwise clean and unmarked. 548 pages.61 essays by various authors on war and peace, their causes and effects. Each essay is numbered and paginated separately in addition to the volume pagination. Table of contents only lists 52 essays. "American Peace Society, Boston" at end of last page of text block. No dust jacket. Carefully packed, shipped in a box. Essays include: Cause of Pease; War Curable; Waste of Property by War; War Inconsistent with Christianity; Peace Practicable; War a Destroyer of Souls; Moral Results of War; Rights to Self Defense; and many others.
