Dust jacket has some wrinkling, chipping, crease and some small tears on the edges and corners, couple of top to bottom crease on the spine, chipping and wear on the sides opposite the spine, some scattered wrinkling, scratches, rubbing and scuffing, light tanning and shelf wear. Book has some bumped corners, couple of small patch stains on the lower right side page edges, some light discoloration and shelf wear. The Grand Rapids St. Isidore's Story - A History Within a History is the story of one of Grand Rapids' Roman Catholic parishes now celebrating its centenary. Because it is a three-ply amalgam of church, ethnic, and local history, its subtitle is appropriately "A History Within a History." It could well have been a subtitled "A Citadel of Faith" because it is a part of the story of Roman Catholicism and the 'Faith of Our Fathers in the Grand River Valley. Since the factor of ethnicity is not an insignificant one in St. Isidore's history, that history could as well been subtitled "Out of Our Ethnic Past" or "Part of the Saga of Grand Rapids' and West Michigan's Polanders." And because the St. Isidore story encapsulates so much local history, any other alternative subtitle which can garner adequate apology for its raison d'etre could have been used. Each of these subtitles, however, represents only a part of the St. Isidore story. That is why its subtitle with good reason is A History Within a History.
