Sobre este artículo

Tokyo: Ogawa Seibundo, 1918. First edition in English of one of the most popular novels in Japan. Octavo, original cloth. Translated by Yasotaro Morri. In very good condition. Scarce. First published in 1906 and based on the author's personal experiences teaching at Matsuyama Middle School in Shikoku, Natsume Soseki's classic novel follows the story of young master Botchan, a reckless and rambunctious youth who, after his father's death, devotes himself to the study of physics and later accepts a position, himself, as a middle school mathematics teacher in Matsuyama. Despite his quick-tempered and arrogant nature, Botchan also harbors an unshakeable faith in honesty and integrity, and ultimately makes a sincere effort to do the right thing, this strong moral grounding is his defining characteristic. The book remains one of the most popular novels in Japan, particularly among Japanese school children, and has been translated into several languages.

Sinopsis

One of Japan's most treasured novels—new to Penguin Classics   A hilarious tale about a young man's rebellion against "the system" in a country school, Natsume Soseki's Botchan has enjoyed a timeless popularity in Japan. The setting is Japan's deep south, where the author himself spent some time teaching English in a boys' school. Into this conservative world, with its social proprieties and established pecking order, breezes Botchan, down from the big city and with scant respect for either his elders or his noisy young charges. The result is a light, funny, fast-paced novel.
