Boards have shelfwear wear present (spines are chipped and worn. ) Marbled endpapers. Previous owner's bookplate present to the FFEP, name present to the half-title page (Walter Ringgold). Missing the last two pages of Volume I. Heavy foxing. Text is free of marks. Binding tight and solid. A series of character sketches of the occupants of an English manor written while Irving lived in England. Washington Irving was America's first genuine internationally best-selling author and the first American to earn his living from his writing alone. E-71; 8vo 8" - 9" tall .
