London : Smith, Elder & Co., 1900. 1st Edition 1st Printing. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. First edition first printing dated 1900 in green boards, Hardback grades as good. Stamped upper board has some slight grubbiness and gently bumped corners. The plain lower board has some grubbiness and a red stain by the fore edge. The spine is toned with rubbing and bumps to the ends. The spine gilt is slightly dulled. Front hinge is strong, rear hinge is starting. The FEP has a previous booksellers pencil price, and pencil name. Text block has sl lean and toning to the edges. The pages are mostly very clean. The tissue guard for the frontispiece is present. 312 text pages plus 8 page publishers catalogue to rear. The illustrated frontispiece is present. Note we do not use stock images, the book pictured is the book described. A slightly better than good example of this collectible early SF title.
