Hardcover. Brown cloth binding with color illustration of young boy in nightshirt with lit candle on front and rear boards. Decorative endpapers. 44 full-page illustrations in red and black. An antique children's picture book about a group of five Kewts: bald little people (not quite as cute as Palmer Cox's Brownies, but similar) who take a tour, written in verse, of the 48 United States with their tour guide Sammy, a short, bald version of Uncle Sam. There's Kewt Pat (Irish) , Kewt Sandy (Scottish) , Kewt Ah San (Chinese) , Kewt Hans (Dutch) and Kewt Sambo (a fez-wearing African). Sambo suffers the most from stereotypical writing and illustrations and Native Americans of Oklahoma are also slammed. ; 4to 11" - 13" tall; 94 pages .
