Numerous line drawings (some color), map, color pictorial endpapers. Very good. Binding mildly edgeworn, else tight and internally near fine; miniscule stain at left edge of first few leaves; lacks dust jacket. Tight and nice first edition of one of the best-known works (winner of the 1956 William Allen White Children's Book Award ) by the beloved, prolific, Newbery Medal-winning children's author (1902-97) -- who boldly inscribes and signs the half-title page in blue ballpoint: "for Deborah -- / Happy trails! / Marguerite Henry / [printed donkey illustration] / and Himself!
