Written and illustrated by Archibald Thorburn, a Scottish artist who specialised in wildlife, painting mostly in watercolour, who regularly visited Scotland to sketch birds in the wild. An ornithological study of the birds of Britain, with reference to family and subfamily turdinae, and details of each individual bird. Volume one is illustrated with a frontispiece and forty-eight colour plates. Volume two is illustrated with a frontispiece and forty-eight plates. Volume three is illustrated with a frontispiece and forty-eight plates. Volume four is illustrated with a frontispiece and forty-eight plates. For a total of one hundred and ninety-two plates. Collated complete. In the original red cloth binding. Externally, smart with light shelf wear and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spines. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd handling mark or pencil annotation. With previous owner's bookplate to the front pastedown. Very Good

Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
