London, Groombridge and Sons, 1864 (2nd edition). Hardback, Large, approx 11.5 x 10 inches. Halfbound leather fine binding maroon morocco leather and marbled boards with gilt line edging. Raised banding, gilt lettering and full gilt decoration to spine. Top page edges gilt, marbled endpapers. In very good condition. Some shelfwear to cover; rubbing to edges and corners, with surface chip to leather on bottom front corner. Marbled paper a little faded and rubbed. Bookplate to front endpaper “Arthur Lavington Payne.” Endpapers slightly cracked between inner hinges, else hinges still firm and strong. Some moderate foxing around edges of title page, frontis guard has taken most of it, frontis has some minor faint spots around edges. A few mild foxing spots and handling marks to inside pages, with some occasional spots to plates but otherwise plates all very clean and bright throughout. Else a very good clean and tight copy. 252pp. Illustrated with Sixty Coloured Plates. (Includes one extra plate loose inside “Eider Duck,” same illustration as at p223, but with slightly different colouring.)
