An attempt has been made to provide one or more British and American locations for each entry...Each entry refers a) to the first edition of the imprint and b) any issues/editions subsequent to the first (whether issued in the same year or in subsequent years) which are noted for the period to 1760... It was not possible to inspect every work listed. However, many hundreds were looked at, especially to discover the exact nature of their North American relevance or to establish certain details of publication or pagination, etc. " - from the introduction.
