Black and white photographic llustrations, xii + 317pp, index, remainder mark lower edge, some wear and closed tears to price-clipped dustjacket, now protected, spotted front cover and marked pages. Generally a sound copy. The author's observations of living and studying in a village in Guang-dong Province in the southeastern People's Republic of China during late 1979 and early 1980. His later revelations about the country's troubled rural conditions earned him the condemnation of the Beijing government , which subsequently denounced him as "a foreign spy" .
