Sobre este artículo
London: George Routledge & Sons Ltd., [1925] Hard cover, 8vo., in half red cloth over tan cloth-covered boards, with a paper labels to the top board and spine, printed in black. lxxx, 256 pp. This work is partially based on the 1880 translations of V. Fausböll of the estimated 550 tales forming the birth-stories, of interest to the western student of the history of Indian literature. Extensive new introductory material includes a number of essays on Buddhist belief, its translation to the West, including the relation of the birth-stories to Greek and Roman myth, and connection to biblical stories. A number of the estimated 550 Jataka Tales, said to form the "Buddhist canonical scriptures," are translated into English by Thomas William Rys Davids, (1843-1922), an expert in the ancient Pāli language founder of the London School for Oriental Studies, and Professor at the University of London from1882-1904 and founder of the London School for Oriental Studies. A review of the13-volume Broadway Translation Series is included in the Classical Weekly, Vol. XIX, No. 24 dated May 3, 1926. Condition: Very Good. Slight soiling to boards and top edge. A few marks of wear, however, mostly clean inside. Lacking rear free end paper. A few roughly opened pages resulting in closed tears. Printed in Great Britain by Stephen Austin & Sons, Hertford. . "New and Revised Edition," Part of the Broadway Translations Series. Hard Cover. Very Good.
