Sobre este artículo
Beautiful green boards with a debossed leaf design on the front cover and spine. Front board has debossed text with gold outlined text and a half page color pastedown. The spine and boards are in very nice condition with only slight wear along the front gutter, rubbing to the very edges of the pastedown and a small blemish on the rear board. Corners show slight bumping but no wear. The spine is tight, boards are firmly attached with no cracking to the endpapers. Text block is solid. Age tanning throughout. Two previous owner names on the front free endpaper. The book contains many of the animal characters that were first introduced by Burgess in Old Mother West Wind (1910) and is filled with color and black & white photographs that are on high gloss paper. The interior pages are in excellent condition with no markings, chips, or cracks.
Thornton Burgess (1874 – 1965) from Sandwich, Massachusetts, wrote his first book Old Mother West Wind based on his outdoor observations in nature and it is where many of the characters, that were to be found in later books, first made their appearance. Burgess first wife died in childbirth leaving him to raise their son which it was said that is when he began writing his bedtime stories to entertain him. He is remembered today as a conservationist and advocate for wildlife protection. By the time he retired he had written over 170 books and 15,000 stories for the daily newspaper column Bedtime Stories.
