London: George Allen & Unwin, 1928. First UK edition. Hardcover. Otherwise very good condition. A translation of the German book describing their discoveries in the Turfan oasis.
With the book plate of Arcadi Gluckman [1896 - 1983] who was a Colonel in the US Army. He spoke fluent Chinese and was among Stillwell's primary officers in the China theater. Gluckman went on to author a number of books on guns. He was the recipient of the Silver Star for Actions during World War I. "First Lieutenant Gluckman distinguished himself by gallantry in action while serving with the 39th Infantry Regiment, American Expeditionary Forces, in action on 18 July 1918, near Troesnes, France." (The Hall of Valor Project).

Loose in the book is a small printed order form for Kelly and Walsh, Ltd of Shanghai for their publication "Outlines of Chinese Symbolism" by C.A.S. Williams.

8vo, 180pp, 52 plates, (two and three to a page) two maps, figures in text. Bound in half brown leather with buckram boards by the owner with his name tooled into the base of the spine, gilt title on spine. Edges and spine slightly scuffed, fox spotting in margins particularly noticeable pp101-131, 163-180 not affecting text.
