Acknowledgements, list of tables and graphs, list of maps, list of abbreviations, introduction by author six appendices, bibliography and index. The text is illustrated with tables, graphs and maps. Illustrated dustwrapper with white and apricots coloured titles to the front panel white coloured titles to the back strip. In this book the author studies the West Suffolk town of Bury St. Edmunds, from 1290 – 1539. The pervading thought has been that all English towns suffered from abject economic decline for two centuries after the bubonic plague. From his studies of Bury St Edmunds the author found that it "... enjoyed an economic boom throughout the later Middle Ages and into the Tudor period. The home of a great Abbey the scene of a vigourous struggle between town and church, Bury St Edmunds owed its prosperity to its textile production and marketing and to its position as the centre of an urban region that defied conventional political boundaries to extend the influence of the town far beyond its gates." – from front fold over panel blurb. Minor rubbing of the back strip edges and to the book corners and lower book edges. Age toning of the textbook edges with scattered foxing. Scattered foxing, along with the remnants of a paperclip to the free front end page and the half title page. Previous owners name to the top edge of the front paste-down. Chipping of the dustwrapper corners and back strip corners. Rubbing and a little creasing of the dustwrapper edges with rubbing, quite noticeable, of the panels. Fading of the back strip and a little to the front panel. Size: 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. [7], VIII -| XVI, [3], 4 - 313, [3] pages,. Please refer to accompanying picture (s).
