Portland, OR: J.J. Butzer, 186 First St., [1908]. 12mo. 3.75 x 7.5 in. 39, [1] pp. Printed softcovers on brick-red paper, Zenoleum advertising on back cover (minor shelfwear), NF copy. First edition of this exceedingly scarce Progressive-Era Butzer’s nursery & seed catalogue from the noted German-American garden supplier located at the time in downtown Portland at the beginning of the 20th Century. The Butzer nursery was a pioneering supplier of Pacific Northwest specific fruit trees, berry bushes, roots, nut trees, and ornamental shrubs. Butzer (1872-1936) was a Spanish-American War veteran who took over the longtime seed business of his father Jacob H. Butzer, and ran until his death. No copies in Worldcat of any Butzer catalogue this early.
