Sobre este artículo

London: Heinemann, 1955-1986. First edition. Cloth. Very Good Indeed/Very Good. 7.5" by 5". James Broom-Lynne. A charming collection of novels by Anthony Powell, with the original dust wrapper designed by English designer, James Broom-Lynne In the original publisher's cloth binding, with the original dust wrappers, with most of the collection being unclipped. This collection is comprised of eight novels by English novelist, Anthony Powell, who is best remembered for his twelve-volume work entitled 'A Dance to the Music of Time'. Seven of the works in our collection are part of this series, with the only exception of 'What's Become of Waring'. 'A Dance to the Music of Time' received its name from a painting by French artist Nicolas Poussin, by the same name. It is narrated by Nicholas Jenkins, presenting a number of themes, including power and passivity in English politics and culture, as well as depicting a comic view of movements and manners within society. The first novel in this series was 'A Question of Upbringing', which was first published in 1951, with the copy in this particular collection being a reprint from 1977. Also included is 'A Buyer's Market', first published in 1952, with this copy being republished in 1955. Following this is 'The Valley of Bones', which is a first edition of the work, published in 1964. 'Books do Furnish a Room' (1971), 'The Soldier's Art' (1966), 'Military Philosophers' (1968) and 'Temporary Kings' (1973) are also first editions of the works. 'What's Become of Waring' (1986) is one of Powell's seven standalone novels, with the first edition published in 1939. This novel is narrated by an anonymous publishing firm employee, depicting the inner workings and tensions of the industry. Secrets become revealed after a seance, with the narrator ultimately realising that life mostly involves the pursuit of power. With charming dust wrapper's designed by English artist and novelist, James Broom-Lynne, who is widely recognised for his striking book jacket designs, such as these.Ink inscription of N. F. N. Litten, dated Nov 57, to the front endpaper of 'A Buyer's Market'. In the original publisher's cloth binding, with the original dust wrappers. Externally, excellent, with light bumping to the extremities and the occasional mark to boards. Fading to head and tail of the spine of 'A Buyer's Market'. Damp stain to the rear board of 'Books do Furnish a Room'. Marks to the rear board of 'Temporary Kings'. Ink inscription to front endpaper of 'A Buyer's Market'. Dust wrapper's mostly in very good condition, with light edge wear to the extremities and the odd chip. All wraps are unclipped, with the exception of 'A Buyer's Market' and 'A Question of Upbringing'. Slight chipping causing loss to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities of 'A Buyer's Market', 'The Valley of Bones', 'Books do Furnish a Room' and 'Temporary Kings'. Tear to the front of the wrap of 'Temporary Kings' with tape repairs. Slight sunning and the odd mark to the wraps. Internally, firmly bound. Hinge slightly strained but firm, to 'A Buyer's Market', with slight loss to half title, near gutter, not affecting text. Pages bright and clean. Very Good Indeed
