Cabinet Card Portrait of Famed Newspaperman Phocion Howard de C.D. Mosher - 1876

Albumen print; Approximately 6 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches; With photographer's credit and other text mount verso. Rare portrait of James William "Phocion" Howard, a noted Chicago-based reporter and author. Howard reported extensively on US affairs in the Dakota and Montana territories, including coverage on the Battle of Little Bighorn. When he passed away in 1893, his obituary called him "one of the best known newspaper men in the state of Illinois."
