Lavishly illustrated throughout with 97 in-text and full-page monochromes reproducing some of Henri Matisse's artwork, this double-issue of Christian Zervos' "Cahiers d'Art" is a splendid monograph on a major figure in modern art.
Indeed, Matisse is commonly regarded, along with Picasso, as one of the artists who best helped to define the revolutionary developments in the visual arts throughout the opening decades of the 20th century, responsible for significant developments in painting and sculpture.
