One of 150 copies, quarto size, [4] pp. This keepsake for the joint meeting of the Roxburghe and Zamorano Clubs of California features a short biography of the San Francisco printer Haywood H. Hunt, who was vastly influential to the typography and fine press scene in San Francisco, even teaching type-setting to Robert Grabhorn, of the Grabhorn Press. In 1848 the discovery of California gold was on everyone's minds, and this article, originally published in New Hampshire in December of 1848, extolloing a "Goldometer", was the perfect choice for a keepsake to be printed by the Grabhorn Press for the Roxburghe and Zamorano Clubs.
Scarce in the marketplace, with no copies online as of this writing; no auction records; OCLC locates nine copies.
___DESCRIPTION: Broadside printed in yellow, red and black, text in two columns; elephant folio size (just under 23" by 12 15/16").
___CONDITION: Very good, the broadside is clean and without markings, one horizontal fold presumed to be original for distribution to the members; some overall toning and edgewear mostly at the top edge, including a few creases and one short (one-half inch) closed tear, additional creases at the fold with additional closed tears to such.
