Octavo. vi, (1) 217 (7)pp. Original blue cloth with deboosed vignette, gilt enhanced, and gilt lettering on cover and spine, gilt publisher's device here. Photo-illustrated title page. Laid in a 1927 newspaper clipping on Jeffers' friend George Sterling and his books, including his references to Robinson Jeffers.
Known for his work about the central California coast, this title was Jeffers second book, written in the for Jeffers typical narrative poetry, describing various California characters and scenarios. Contains part entitled "Descriptive Songs and Others."
Jeffers coined the term "Inhumanism," a belief that humans are too self-centered and indifferent about the beauty, the wonders of nature. He is considered one of the icons of the environmental movement. Californians was printed in an edition of 1,200 copies. Includes six pages with advertisements of Macmillan publication on kindred subjects at rear. Binding with very light wear along edges. Inside front cover and endpaper with offsetting from newspaper clip.
