London: Thomas Tegg, 1806. First edition. Leather. Very Good Indeed. 8.5" by 5". None. The first edition of this work by John Davis, an uncommon work rebound in a handsome half calf binding. The first edition of this work, rebound in a half calf binding. All edges gilt. Ink inscription to the title page, dated 1844. The author John Davis (1774-1854) first went to sea in an East Indiaman, joining Sir Edmund Nagle's frigate Artois in 1794. He rose to become acting lieutenant before leaving the navy in 1797. The Post-Captain was published anonymously in the first edition, and had considerable success despite receiving mixed critical reviews. Rebound in a half calf binding. Externally in lovely condition. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are a little age toned with the odd spot and handling mark throughout. Very Good Indeed

Where are We?
Based in the literary city of Bath, our offices are housed in the Eastern Dispensary. Built in 1845, the building originally existed as a charitable institution providing medical care. The building now houses our collection of over twenty thousand books and has five full time members of staff.
