1919. Very good condition. Signed caricature of a German soldier venturing on his knees from his fox hole, surrendering to an approaching figure in the far distance.
Forain (1852 - 1931) was a French Impressionist painter and print maker, one of the most noted on the first few decades of the 1900s. He was the most famous caricaturist of the Belle Epoque, and was influenced by the work of Daumier and Degas, a life long friend and colleague.
Image size varies on paper 17 1/2 x 11 3/4". Small chip lower edge, not affecting print. Signed at the lower left.
