Georg Augustus Wallin (1811-1852) was a Finnish orientalist and explorer. He travelled the Arab world for six years, and disguised himself as Muslim to gain acceptance in the two holy Islamic cities, Mecca and Medina, which at the time were still forbidden to holders of other faiths.
Ali Ibn al-Farid (1181-1235) was from Cairo and his poetry is entirely Sufic and he was esteemed as the greatest mystic poet of the Arabs. Some of his poems are said to have been written in ecstasies.
