Sobre este artículo

Chicago, IL: University Of Chicago Press, 1977. First Edition. First Printing.. Hardcover. Fine/Fine Dust Jacket.. Chicago, IL: University Of Chicago Press, 1977. Hardcover. Fine/Fine. First Edition/First Printing. 337 pages. Retrospective collection of tales, published posthumously. One of Isak Dinesen's finest achievements. The first appearance of the title in English and in the United States. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions, particularly the Softcover Edition. Published in a small and limited first print run as a hardcover original by a University Press. The First Edition is now scarce. Presents Isak Dinesen's "Carnival: Entertainments And Posthumous Tales" in a felicitous English translation. Eleven mesmerizing, unforgettable tales originally written in her native Danish by Isak Dinesen, a writer inaccurately identified with her later (masterly) works in English. Never before published in English, none of the pieces could be found in translation until this landmark publication even though they are regarded as among her best work, and discussed as such in biographies and critical studies of the beloved author. First published in 1977 long after Isak Dinesen's death in 1962, a fifteen-year gap, her literary executors exercised great care in presenting a beautiful ensemble of stories to delight and enchant her millions of readers in English. One will bask in the gossamer dream-world Dinesen has created in such tales as "Uncle Theodore", "The DeCats Family", and her "bedtime story for grownups", "The Ghost Horses". The eponymous piece, "Carnival", and the final one, "The Second Meeting", are vintage, mandatory Dinesen. An absolute "must-have" title for Isak Dinesen collectors. This title is a great book. This is one of few copies of the First Hardcover Edition/First Printing (American) still available online and is in fine condition overall: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Precedes and should NOT be confused with the Softcover Edition. Copies available online have serious flaws, are in multiple subsequent printings, or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A scarce copy thus. Isak Dinesen's "Out of Africa" is regarded as one of the greatest books of the 20th century. One of greatest writers of all time. A fine copy. (SEE ALSO OTHER ISAK DINESEN TITLES IN OUR CATALOG). ISBN 0226153037.
