This work is the second novel in the reclusive author's 'Jungle Novels'. The 'Jungle' novels chronicle the exploitation of the native peoples living in 'monterias', or mahogany logging camps of the rain forests of Chiapas, by the wealthy Spanish landowners during the dictatorship of Porfirio Diaz.
