A magnificent copy with well preserved pristine original dust jacket and with WWII association. Hand signed and inscribed by Edgar Rice Burroughs on the front endpaper to Captain Robert Joseph Coontz Navy Commander (U.S.S. Wedderburn) the grandson of Admiral Robert Edward Coontz (U.S.S. Seattle). Admiral Coontz was only the second U.S. Navy Admiral Commander in Chief (1919-1923). Captain 'Bobby' J. Coontz was a collector of science fiction and fantasy books, this is a newly discovered book signed by ERB to Captain Coontz when he was a young boy during the early years of WWII. The U.S.S. Coontz destroyer, which served during the Vietnam War, was named after Admiral R.E. Coontz. Signed ERB first editions are scarce and this book remained virtually unknown to the public at the Coontz estate for over three-quarters of a century. Includes laid in signed typed letter (TLS) dated 1923 from Admiral Robert E. Coontz to Marion C. Deane, a well known autograph collector. Carson of Venus is considered the finest of Burroughs' Venus novels. Heins V3.1. First appearance in pulp fiction magazine Argosy Weekly in January, 1938. Cover art on jacket by John Coleman Burroughs with interior art illustrated with six interior drawings including frontispiece. Not a facsimile dust jacket, not a mechanical auto-pen signature, not ex-library and not remainder marked. As of this writing this is the only known ERB book of this title on the market signed to a high ranking maritime military family by the author. Scarce signed WWII Navy association copy from Edgar Rice Burroughs. 312 pgs. 8vo.
