Full-length image of Jefferson in country-style costume with long scarf, seated with his hands clasped around his left knee, with a jug and half-full glass behind him. Gilt-stamped under the image, "Sarony, 680 B'way." Jefferson (1829-1905), actor and comedian, is perhaps best known for his portrayal of "Rip Van Winkle," for being the first American actor to appear in a film, and as the namesake of Jefferson Island in Mashpee, Massachusetts.
