New York, NY: Jenna Press, 1986. First English language edition, abridged from the original 5 volume French work. Trade Paperback. Very good. Octavo. Slight wear to edges and corners of covers. 260 p. w/chronology, bibliography, notes. As his protagonists tell their adventurous tale over 20 days to a room full of lords and ladies, it gives Casanova an opportunity to do a good bit of philosophizing and commentary on both our world and his fictional natural one under the earth, populated by a subterranean race of Megamicres, single-sexed and 18 inches tall, who lived on liquids and odors. An uncommon early science fiction novel, first published in 1788. Casanova thought this work would ensure his literary immortality, but it was fairly ignored upon its publication.
