DJ/NF with 195/195 on front inner flap, denoting choice of board finishing & pricing; 195/195 indicates it is the 3rd variant, zeroing on the price of $1.95, commitment to the more durable boards better suited for little hands & fingers, paginated pages, and, establishing a standard format for subsequent Cat in the Hat Beginner Reader Series. Art work remains constant. In essence, this 3rd Variant Edition is the definitive printing. This smiling, tall, skinny cat, sporting a signature red bow tie & red-and-white striped top hat, created and made famous both through verse and illustrations from Dr. Seuss, pen name of Theodor Seuss Geisel (1904 - 1991), is familiar to most American school children, and spearheaded early reader books punctuated with wit, humor & word play. The charming tale is told uses only a vocabulary of 220 words, all familiar to 1st & 2nd graders. A cool cat that will reappear in subsequent rhymed stories by Dr. Seuss & contributing authors to the Beginner Books series. Fine copy.

Sinopsis

The Cat in the Hat is a children's book written and illustrated by Theodor Geisel under the pen name Dr. Seuss and first published in 1957.  The story centers on a tall anthropomorphic cat who wears a red and white-striped hat and a red bow tie. The Cat shows up at the house of Sally and her brother on a rainy day while they are home alone. Despite the repeated objections of the children's fish, the Cat shows the children a few of his tricks in an attempt to entertain them. In the process, he and his companions, Thing One and Thing Two, wreck the house. The children and the fish become more and more alarmed until the Cat produces a machine that he uses to clean everything up and disappears just before the children's mother comes home. The Cat and the Hat  inaugerated the Beginner Books Series, promoting both the Dr. Seuss name and the cause of elementary literacy in the United States.
