Small folio, stiff wrappers, with overall pattern of cow-hide The company was founded in 1889 to meet the need for a heavy fur coat, when the American Bison was no longer plentiful. G. N. Crosby starting experimenting with cow, horse and dog skins and produced some very serviceable, if rather bulky coats. The company went on to utilize seal, gray and red fox, coyote, beaver, otter, raccoon, shunk, mink, ermine, squirrel. There are charming illustrations of women draped in all of the above. Fur hats, slippers and gloves were also made The company also had a taxidermy department and mounted many of the specimens from Pres. Teddy Roosevelt's 1910 West African trip. Included are views of the workrooms and many examples of the company's wares
